The Mastabas of Kahief & Seneb

Rehab Ismail & Amir Nabil

‘Giza Studies’ is an ambitious project, aimed at re-documenting, studying and publishing as many as possible of the Giza mastabas and rock tombs which would benefit from a detailed new publication. Priority is being given to tombs that need clearer photographs and detailed line drawings, further analysis of its owner’s social background, family descent and career, or tombs with controversial dating, or unusual architecture, scenes or inscriptions. As tombs reflect the time at which they were built, their careful examination is essential for our understanding of the exact development of various aspects of Egyptian civilisation over time. The publication of tombs in the present series will be based on new architectural measurements and drawings, colour photographs of all scenes and inscriptions and detailed line drawings of the same. With facsimile drawings of scenes and inscriptions now prohibited, these are produced digitally and checked on location, with excellent results. While we acknowledge that different tombs may have different characteristics, which require some variations in the presentation of the related materials, an attempt will be made to follow a somewhat standard format in order to facilitate the use of the present series for the reader. Fully illustrated with both line drawings and colour photographs, the present volume contains a comprehensive account of the mastabas of Kahief (G 2136) and Seneb, including discussions of their family members & dependents, proposed dating of the tombs, architectural features and scenes & inscriptions.
